FACET PAIN

Back To Life Chiropractic

Facet pain (imbrication/syndrome)

A great deal of back pain is caused by facet joints. Facet pain is mainly localized to one side of the spine. It may occur in the outside hip, buttock and/or leg. It rarely comes from below the knees and discomfort is aggravated by standing or walking. Facets were meant to help guide the vertebrae and not to have abnormal stresses on them. So, proper alingment is essential to reducing facet pain. Luckily that is what chiropractic treatment does.

When the sway of the lower back increases such as when sitting or when lying on your stomach, pressure on the facet joints will increase the level of pain further. Like when bending over backwards instead of frontwards. So, extension exercises could make facet problems worse at first. So sometimes certain stretches which would made a disc problem improve will make a facet problem worse.

Facet pain can be relieved by the following:

  1. Ice Packs and getting adjusted properly.
  2. Restoring normal curvature AP and Lateral using the Back to Life System.
