I know we all hear how great running is for the body, but don’t forget how good walking is as well.

Walking is a lower impact exercise and safer for your joints and a good way to start an exercise routine when you haven’t done so in a long while or ever.

Walking has great benefits for the body.

  • Weight control
  • Stress relief
  • Cardio-vascular fitness–that means good for your heart.
  • Helps strengthen bones and muscles
  • Improves balance (good posture) and endurance
  • Helps manage high blood pressure, high cholesterol, joint pain and stiffness, diabetes

Don’t dismiss walking as an exercise. It takes a comparable amount of energy to a single mile distance, walking or running. Start with short distances, or even short times, and work your way up.

Another benefit of walking is that it is very repetitive so it will pick up any problems in your joints or spine by the feeling of pain.
